Discussing the effect of AI on the world of work on L’Altra Ràdio

Parlem de l’efecte de la IA en el món laboral a L’Altra Ràdio

On May 9th, in our section of the radio show L’Altra Ràdio (Ràdio 4, RNE), Javier Otero and Marcos Montero, heads of artificial intelligence and digital transformation at ThinkUPC, talked about how the evolution of artificial intelligence is transforming the work environment. In this edition, they explained the leap from conversational models to the new reasoning models and their impact on productivity.

These are the main takeaways from their talk on AI and work:

  • From conversational models to reasoning agents: Javier and Marcos explain that we have moved from systems that predict words in a synchronous interaction to models capable of planning and executing complex tasks.
  • The arrival of “reasoning models”: with GPT 5.3 and Claude 4.6 versions, AI no longer just answers questions but acts as an agent entrusted with a complete task.
  • Autonomous work capacity: currently, an AI can autonomously perform tasks that would take a person more than 10 hours of work.
  • Exponential growth: they detail that the autonomous work capacity of AI doubles every six months, meaning that in a decade it could perform tasks that would take a human 10,000 hours.
  • Impact on the tech sector: these advances are having a particular impact on programming, where models are already starting to program themselves.

If you want to know more details about how artificial intelligence and work will coexist, we invite you to listen to the L’Altra Ràdio podcast (minute 5:30).
