Performance evaluation for Nexus Energía

We analyze the performance of Nexus Energía’s Esfera Luz platform and offer recommendations to optimize it and drive its technological evolution.

Challenge

Nexus Energía, a company specializing in the marketing of electricity and natural gas, needed to assess the performance of its Esfera Luz platform, which is dedicated to the contracting of 100% solar renewable energy. This platform provides information and tools for subscribing to its services, as well as a client management portal.

Given the expected rapid increase in users in the short term, they wanted to ensure that the system’s performance and functionality were operating correctly, assess its maximum capacity, and receive recommendations on potential optimizations and future technological improvements.

Project

We have developed this project in the following three phases:

  1. Initial System Analysis: We analyzed the technological environment that underpins the Esfera Luz platform, as well as the pre-production environment where performance tests would later be conducted. This analysis allowed us to understand the architecture of the infrastructures and systems involved in these services, and to provide high-level initial recommendations for improving several key aspects—such as security, environment schema definition, and scalability enhancements.
  2. Performance Testing: The performance tests aimed to simulate a large number of user visits to the Esfera Luz portal to assess its behavior under progressively increasing load and determine its current capacity threshold. We began by defining the typical user profiles for the portal and, for each profile, detailing the usual use cases—the sequences of operations typically performed on the platform. Next, we provisioned load generation servers on ThinkUPC virtual machines. Finally, we executed the test bench, simulating access by thousands of users from our infrastructure, which provided us with a comprehensive results table.
  3. Results Assessment and Conclusions: The performance tests highlighted the factors that hinder the system when facing high load rates, acting as bottlenecks. After evaluating the results, we provided a series of recommendations to enhance the platform and ensure its optimal functioning under such circumstances.

Results

Thanks to this project, Nexus Energía now understands the type of load its Esfera Luz portal can currently handle and what measures should be taken to evolve it technologically and ensure its proper operation under higher load conditions.
