On April 22nd, we attended the presentation of LEIA UPC, the new identity for the building that houses our headquarters. The former Nexus I thus begins a strategic phase as an innovation node that coordinates the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
The event featured Miquel Soriano, Director General of Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Francesc Torres, Rector of the UPC; Montserrat Guàrdia, President of the UPC Social Council; and Jaume Miralles, Director General of Artificial Intelligence, Efficiency, and Data in Administration for the Generalitat. All speakers agreed on the importance of this space in consolidating the University as an international benchmark in the field of advanced technology.
An ecosystem of talent and technology transfer
The LEIA UPC building was created to foster symbiosis between research, knowledge transfer, and management. As a University-owned company specializing in digital services and AI, ThinkUPC is integrating into this ecosystem to continue providing innovative solutions that enhance organizational competitiveness and people’s lives.
Sharing this environment with high-level research centers and engineering and consultancy professionals allows us to boost synergies and stay at the forefront of digital transformation. Furthermore, in the coming months, the building will also host the new offices of the UPCnet team, establishing this space as a premier technological meeting point at the Campus Diagonal Nord.
Connecting university and society
Javier Otero, Director of Artificial Intelligence at ThinkUPC, highlights the strategic value of this new location: “Being part of LEIA UPC allows us to consolidate our role as a connector between the University, businesses, and society. Additionally, we are strengthening the virtuous circle established between ThinkUPC and UPCnet. From here, we not only help translate cutting-edge AI research and knowledge generated at the UPC into real-world solutions for organizations, but we also bring the experience we gain in the market back to the UPC in the form of new services, fueling the university ecosystem with an applied vision of Artificial Intelligence.“
A commitment to responsible AI
The launch of LEIA UPC is part of the UPC Action Plan 2025-2028. This program establishes a governance framework for the responsible use of artificial intelligence, impacting teaching, research, and university management.
For ThinkUPC, this new chapter reaffirms our commitment to leading projects and services that integrate technology from an ethical and efficient perspective, supporting companies and society through the transformation driven by Artificial Intelligence across all areas: strategy, applications, talent management, cybersecurity, and technological infrastructure.
